Yes, I'm THREE steps closer to getting hired (I hope). If you've read my posts before, you probably know already that I applied for a Team Leader position in a call center here in Cebu. I've already passed 2 exams - basic skills exam and language assessment - and the initial interview. Now, I'm waiting for my final interview schedule.
It's been an exhausting 3 weeks of waiting for the final step towards being hired as a Team Leader. I didn't know it's going to take this long for the screening to finish. And, I already want to start working! Sheesh!
Just today, I finished my language assessment. I was so freaking nervous about this whole language assessment thing that I felt like fainting every 5 minutes. When I came to their office, I was briefed about what's going to happen. I knew I'm going to talk to a LIVE person but I didn't expect what's going to happen next.
I was asked to come in a sound-proof room. I'm not sure if it was sound-proof, though, because everyone was looking at me strangely when I came out. But, anyway, going back to the assessment, I spoke to someone named Brena. Or was it Brenda and she was just too slang for me to understand? Nahh. She's Brena.
We started with the usual, "How's your day?", "How's the weather there?", blah blah blah. These questions were indicated on the info sheet that was given to me during the briefing. So, I thought, hey, this will be easy. And, would you even guess that a conversation about the weather would end into a long talk about how I'm adjusting with the communication gap here in Cebu?
Alright, before I go on, this assessment was just to see how well I converse in English. Nothing to be alarmed about. We were both very professional during the whole thing.
She was asking me about the weather here in Cebu. I told her it's always sunny out. it should be rainy but I don't know what's up. And she continued on asking me about the weather. I had to tell her that I just moved here a month ago and I'm not really familiar with the weather here.
Good thing I did, because the next conversation was more interesting to me than talking about if it's sunny or rainy or whatever.
I told her I'm adjusting well except for the communication gap. I'm still in the first phase of learning to understand Cebuano. Oh, by the way, I told her that Filipino is the international term for Tagalog. Anyway, I told her that I can understand a little now. I don't really want to go into details on what else we talked about but it was a good conversation for me.HOWEVER, my insecurities hit me again. During the interview, I had some slips with my pronouns. Whoa, pronouns. Hahahaha. I got distracted because the HR rep was waiting at the door, and I... argh. Mind block!
Anyway, I inhaled and exhaled, and I was able to pull back from that block and continued chatting with her casually again. Phew!
So, that slip got me all agitated. I thought I wasn't gonna pass. BUT I DID!!!
I received the message as I was walking back to the car. I immediately told my partner's parents (my in-laws hihihih) that I just found out I passed and I have to wait for my final interview next week.
Sigh. Alright, I'm not hired yet. I can't be too excited until I signed the contract. So, I am really praying that I pass the final interview. Why? Let me tell you why I REALLY, REALLY want to work for this call center company.
#1: Mai is alreay their employee.
It's fine with me if we have different schedules as long as we're part of the same company.
#2: They're the closest call center here.
They're just a few minutes away from home so it'll be way easier for me and Mai.
#3: I've already worked with people from their company.
And I didn't have any problems with anyone of them. I know they also have good training. I know some of their systems... well, that is if they haven't updated them yet. Because back when I was still with my 2nd company, as a Quality Specialist, I was using the same system as they were using. They helped my company to establish or standardized processes for their Quality, Training and Operations departments. So, I know I'll be in good hands.
Those are the 3 major reasons why I want to be hired by them. Now, on top of all that, I WANT TO START WORKING!
I want to start earning my own money again (well, for me and Mai). I don't want my mind to be as idle as it is now. An idle mind is the devil's workshop, remember? Nah. I'm just exaggerating.
I'm talking nonsense. I just want to write what I'm thinking NOW before Mai comes home. So, don't mind me.
Thank you, God, that I passed the basic skills exam, the initial interview and the language assessment. I really hope you'll let me pass the final interview, too.
WISH ME LUCK!!!
