It's Not Just Me

I've already talked about how Mai and I wanted to lose the weight we've gained over the past years. My brother's going to kill me for posting this, but I've wanted to talk about his struggle with weight gain, too, on my blog for so long, I had to wait 'til I know he's too busy studying again for the Midwifery Board exam coming up in 2 weeks before I even started writing this.

Anyway, this is about the weight he's gained from his fourth year as a Nursing student 'til the present. Here are his before and after/present photos:

As you can see, he really gained a lot of weight because of all the stress studying for the final exam before they can graduate (TCAP exam which he aced, by the way) and for the Nursing Licensure Exam, which he also passed - he was even in the Top 20 based on scores. I'm so proud of his accomplishments, but he really needs to lose the weight again because it really affected his confidence.

He's got a planned trip to Cebu in September so he swore to lose the weight before that day comes. Right now, he doesn't even want to go out because most of his clothes were tight-fitting when he was thinner. Now, he had to resort to wearing our parents' shirts. *LOL* Last time he and our Nanay went out to shop, they were at the clearance men's shirts section because my brother doesn't want to spend too much because he knows he'll lose the weight eventually so buying a lot of loose clothes now will be a waste. Anyway, you'd still find comfortable and great-looking designs even at clearance sales. He's very particular with the style of his clothes even now that he's a bit heavier than his old self. He doesn't want to throw away his old clothes for the same reason.

I'm not sure when he'll really start taking this seriously. I don't want to pressure him into losing the weight because I know he's still under a lot of stress right now, y'know, the usual phase we go through right after graduation - identity crisis. Like you don't know what you want to do with your life. I hope he finds the right path for him. He's a smart guy so I know he'll go places... and we'll be right there with him. :)

  2. I agree with you, he did look better when he gained the weight, but I want him to lose some of it 'coz it really affected his self-confidence.

Good for you! I haven't weighed or measured myself since my partner and I started our "less rice" diet. I feel better, though. :)

Have a great week, too! :)
