"Stop opening 20+ windows of different applications at one time! I'm a laptop, darn you!"
Yes, I'm guilty. I multi-task so much that I usually have about 20+ windows open. Here's a list of some of the applications that I usually have open:
- Mozilla Firefox – I open my email and any other secure websites on this browser because I trust it more. I use this browser for clicking at PTC sites, checking my email or Paypal account.
- Google Chrome – This browser loads websites faster than Firefox so I use it when I click Adgitize ads and when I go Entrecard-dropping. I also use it to search on Google or my favorite stock image resources because of its loading speed.
- Photoshop – I have this open at all times because of the photos I use on my blog posts. I also am currently working on a Wordpress theme so I need to have it open. Plus, I also use it for photo prints here at our cafe.
- MS Excel – I use this for our sales report at our icafe. I also have a separate spreadsheet for my blog post schedule and to-do list. LOL.
- Notepad / Wordpad – I use them for lots of things, mostly for copying and pasting messages or when I submit my articles to different social networking sites.
- Windows Live Writer – I have a couple of these opened just so I won't forget to finish them. I usually just give a title to my post and leave it there. Then, I finish a post one by one. I need to do this just in case procrastination sets in. LOL.
- DOS-prompt – I always open a continuous ping window because I only use a wireless connection to our router. It helps keep my connection alive.
- Explorer windows – Whenever I access files, of course.
- Most of the other windows I open are for our icafe like when I access a certain station/client or when the customer needs something printed that they saved on their station.
"Don't you know that a little maintenance goes a long way?! Dang!"
I know, I know. The last time I actually cleaned my laptop physically, like removing the dusts, etc., was a few weeks ago. I remember when I brought my laptop for repair a few months ago at SST Laptops. The lady who took all the parts out so I could sign them (to prevent anyone from interchanging or replacing the parts with something else) was grinning 'cause the inside was so dusty. LOL.
Well, I do a routine cleaning of my laptop's screen. I guess I need to buy a laptop cleaner so it'll be easy for me to remove the dirt/dust in between the keys. Any suggestions?
"With everything you're expecting from me, I need a little more energy!"
My laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ40-340TU (I posted how I successfully downgraded it from Windows Vista to XP) that I bought last year. Here are the specifications of this laptop model:
As you can see, it only came with 1 GB of memory. I have already upgraded it to 2 GB, but, because of how much work I get done on this lappy toppy, I will be upgrading it to possibly 4 GB of RAM. Woot! Imagine how many more windows I can open with that much memory. Bwahahaha. LOL. Seriously, my laptop needs more memory. I'm actually doing okay with just 2 GB, but, I need more so I can do more.
Aside from a RAM upgrade, I'm also planning on upgrading my laptop's hard disk or I'll probably just buy an external one for backups and files that I don't really use that often but I don't want to delete. I am also planning on buying a 3 year laptop warranty so I won't have to worry about spending too much on repairs.
"I've been with you for over a year now. How about giving me a name?"
I know, most people I know name their gadgets. Well, I don't. I find it a bit silly. Apologies to anyone who does. Nothing personal. I just find it a bit awkward to talk like, "Hey, I want to take a photo of this. Let me get Frank". Or on Facebook, "I brought Frank with me and we had a good time taking photos of the sceneries". I know, a lot of people name their DSLRs Frank, like my brother's friend (no naming names hehehe) and my officemate. I love my laptop, but, I prefer letting people know that I'm referring to my laptop instead of a person. Trust me, it's confusing. Some people even thought Danica, our dog who passed away years ago, was my kid when I said I had to feed her. See? LOL.
But, since this laptop has been through thick and thin with me, helping me make money online, I guess, SHE deserves a name. That's right. This laptop is a SHE, just so Mai won't get jealous or something. LOL. I called her Cherrypaq before, but, it was all a joke. Cherry was from Mai's real name and –PAQ is from, well, the brand name, Compaq. LOL.
So, I decided to name my laptop Maria Cristina Andrea Danielle. MCAD for short.
Okay, kidding again. Seriously now, meet...
Corveena now has her own category on this blog. But, don't expect me to use that name often here. I'll still say "my laptop Corveena" when referring to it... her. See, I can't get used to this. LOL.
Anyway, my question to my beloved readers today, particularly laptop owners...
How do you take care of your laptop / desktop?
Please share your stories about your beloved computers at the comments section.
Thanks! :)
