Standing (and Dressing) Tall

I am one of those women who were not blessed with the "tall gene". I stopped growing at the age of 16. I'm guessing it's because I already started smoking (I've quit, by the way) at an early age. Well, that's one reason aside from the fact that none of my parents is tall. My dad's height is around 5'7". My brother is actually as tall as he is. My mother, well, she's the shortest. LOL.

I've always envied the tall girls in my class back when I was still studying. I was a fashionista back in the days and I've always dreamed of wearing dresses or girly skirts. But, I didn't have the legs to make them look good on me. But, I'm glad that here in the Philippines, my height is actually common for women my age. I'm at 5'4". So, there are a lot of petite clothing available for women like me. Well, now, I fall under plump over petite 'cause of the weight I gained over the past years. LOL.

I've tried everything to look taller over the years. I wear high-soled or platform shoes or slippers to boost my posture and how tall I look. Now, since I no longer have to wear any formal shoes, I opt to wearing a pair of these - Havaianas High Heel Sun Black Flip Flops.

I don't wear belts. I also don't buy long blouses that would only make me look shorter. I noticed that blouses with small-sized prints really work for me. But, I also buy and wear plain shirts / blouses. I just make sure the length is just a few centimeters above where my hips start.

I may be short in height, but, I've got wide hips. So, I only wear pants that help me look taller, but, at the same time, fits perfectly on my hips. I only wear black pants and I make sure the ones I buy are long enough to cover the back of my heel. Trust me, buying pants for myself could take hours! That's why I always end up buying a pair at the mall instead of buying cheap but quality ones at Divisoria.

Although I'm not tall, my attitude in life makes up for my height. I've always been a positive thinker and I'm usually the one who people can depend on, especially when they're in emotional troubles. I may be still unmarried with no kids, but, I've had my own share of learning experiences which made me the person I am now. I still hope, though, that I continuously grow as a person so I can inspire people. Who says you need to be at 6 feet to stand tall?!
