Do you like receiving flowers on special occasions?
Honestly, I don't. Not that I'm that cold-hearted or something. I just prefer to receive something that I could use or I can keep forever. Flowers wither and you can only keep them fresh for a couple of days before they die on you. I want to receive something that can keep the memories alive for a very long time.
However, even though I don't like receiving flowers, I still appreciate it. I feel a li'l special, like a princess, like a girl (LOL) when I receive flowers. I don't know what it is about flowers that make us women feel special. It could be the colors that can brighten up someone's day. Or it could be that giving flowers is just too cheesy that if someone does it for you, you'd know it's special. *LOL* But, seriously, I guess, more than anything, flowers are used to express one's feelings towards someone else.
For instance, giving tulips as a gift can mean a lot of things. Generally, they mean passion, or deep love. Red tulips symbolize undying love. Yellow ones are for hopeless love. All my life, I've only received a tulip ONCE. It was from someone who was courting me and I was deeply touched. Well, we didn't become a couple, but I would always remember him for giving me that beautiful, long-stemmed tulip back in high school. I wonder where he is now. We were too young back then so I wasn't serious about the whole courtship.
Anyway, for roses, which I usually get, yellow ones may mean joy, gladness, friendship and platonic love. Red ones for true love, passion and desire... sometimes, even lust. White is for purity, humility and reverence. I've received all these colors of roses already, even blue and pink ones. They're my second favorite flower after tulips.
When was the last time you received or given flowers?
