My College Years

When I finished high school, I thought I really wanted to be a Chemical Engineer. I studied BS Chemical Engineering in the University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman, Quezon City. My mother and I was actually psyched because I really thought I'd eventually work for pharmaceutical companies and wear one of those white lab coats at work.I almost became a Chemical Engineer - JustAnotherPixel.net

After over a year of studying Chemical Engineering, I realized it wasn't for me. I had my first laptop running on Windows 95 (yes, that ancient operating system) during my first year in college. After a few months with it, I finally decided I wanted to pursue a career in Information Technology instead. I'm just glad I was able to convince my mother to agree with my decision.

My mother works for the health office here in our area. When I was younger, she actually inspired me to want to pursue a medical career. But, I guess my interests really changed when I matured because now, I can't imagine myself being a nurse or doctor. I just can't handle that much pressure on my hands. Just watching my fave TV series Grey's Anatomy, House MD, and Private Practice, with all the doctors and nurses wearing scrubs uniforms, sends shivers down my spine because I can't really handle those kinds of situations.

I remember when we had a small hospital or a lying-in clinic at our home in Navotas. It was a collaboration between her and a couple of her colleagues (doctors, nurses, midwives). I'd envy them when they wear their green scrubs when they're taking care of a patient inside. I even remember watching a woman giving birth in there. At that time, I really thought I'd be a doctor someday. Seriously. I can imagine how fulfilling it is to save lives or to help a mother give birth to her baby.

I still wish I am a doctor now. Really. I guess that's why I enjoy watching the TV series I mentioned earlier. I salute all doctors, nurses, midwives, everyone in the medical field!
