Do Something Different This Boxing Day

Instead of spending Boxing Day on the sofa, recovering from the hangover of too much food and alcohol consumed on Christmas Day, why not do something different this year? For instance, you could go and enjoy one of the most prestigious events in the horse racing calendar in the UK – the Winter Festival at Kempton Park.

Winter Festival at Kempton Park

The King George VI chase was named after the Queen’s father and takes place on Boxing Day every year at Kempton Park race course in Surrey. The chase was first run in 1937 and takes the horses and their riders over 18 jumps on a three mile course.

Whether you like betting on horse racing or you just enjoy the spectacle of watching great events like the King George, you couldn’t choose a more exciting race to wash away those cobwebs from an excessive Christmas Day. As well as watching the races, there’s plenty of other entertainment going on at the Winter Festival, and with an expected 30,000 crowd in attendance, you certainly won’t lack company.

Even if you don’t actually feel like going to the races in person, you can always enjoy the atmosphere watching on the TV. It won’t be quite the same, of course, but you can still get your bets on at an online betting exchange like Betfair, and you may win yourself a little extra for Christmas in the process! This year, the favourite is Cue Card, with odds of around 5/2 at the time of writing, followed by Dynaste at 4/1 and Al Ferof at 5/1. With a longer price at around 16/1, last year’s winner Long Run, looks like a value bet to take now ahead of race day.

If you decide to make a day of it and go to the races in person, make sure to wrap up – you’ll be doing a lot of standing while you’re watching those horses do the work!
