Okay, nothing really happened today that suits the title except reading this article about someone who helped a mother by paying for their groceries. Hearing stories of random acts of kindness make my heart melt… and make me happy. 🙂 Being kind to strangers is not an easy thing to do for many people because we’ve been exposed to how bad others can get. So it makes me smile, and even shed a tear or two, when I read stories like this of pure kindness.
I have to admit, I can sometimes be cynical when it comes to giving alms to beggars. But I have had many chances to pay it forward, in my own little ways. I may not particularly remember every single one of those moments, but I feel like it’s not for me to remember. I hope that everyone I helped felt that there are still many of us who are willing to reach out and lend a helping hand.
I have yet to perform a remarkable act of kindness, but I feel the little good deeds matter too. Helping an elderly climb up a jeepney or bus. Giving the homeless you see on the street some food (not leftovers) so they can eat for the day. Being respectful towards the wait staff, janitors, etc. Even a smile can help brighten up someone’s day. There are many things we can do to be kind to others, and majority of them don’t need you to shell out any money. We just need to pay attention and empathize.
My small acts of kindness didn’t just make the people I helped feel better, but it warmed my heart and soul. I’ve been blessed and lucky, so why shouldn’t I pay it forward? 🙂
