Getting Work Done (Day 31 #100HappyDays)

One of the best feelings when it comes to work would have to be the satisfaction of getting all your tasks done earlier than expected. I love being productive at work, and for some people who work at home like I do, this might be a struggle. I’m not perfect, but the thought of logging out early and not worrying about anything else after my shift ends is something that pushes me to not slack off. 🙂

No substitute for hard work

Next week is our planned vacation, so this means I’ve been pretty busy preparing to get everything prepared, especially because I need to submit reports and important documents for the following week as early as Wednesday next week, before I take my leave. Gaahhhh! 😀 Thankfully, looks like I’ll be finished earlier than expected. 🙂

Existence of Social Media (Day 17 #100HappyDays)

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again – I am thankful for the existence of social media. Aside from finding my ‘calling’ when it comes to a career I want to pursue, social media has brought about many positive changes in my life. Sure, we can argue about how it has enabled a lot of negativity to spread quickly across the world, but we can’t deny that the good outweighs the bad. And I don’t think social media is to be blamed for all the disadvantages, but how us as humans use it. I believe social media has more vital effects on our lives.

Social media not only enabled us to communicate better (again, some might disagree), but it also gave us a way to be updated on our friends’ and loved ones’ lives, no matter where they are located. Sure, we don’t communicate on the phone as much as before, but social media is more cost-effective and I feel it has made it possible for us to be more connected. Some people might not like talking over the phone and they prefer to text or email. With social media, you just need to open your Facebook account and send a private message to someone without any extra costs (unless, of course, you don’t have a monthly DSL internet plan).

When email started

We also got to see, through images, how our loved ones are doing. In a way, we get to be part of their lives. You get to share your own life too to the people you care about.

One of the things I love about social media is I got to meet new friends. Through my blogs, I met some really cool people, especially our fellow foodies who we get to share delicious meals with. 🙂

And, of course, working in social media has made me realize what I’m supposed to be doing. I didn’t take a marketing course in college because I didn’t know I had a way with words. Sure, I love writing and reading back then, but I didn’t know I can come up with witty lines and ideas that marketing requires. So, now, I’m deeply in love with my work as a Social Media Manager and a supervisor for a team of smart people too. I’ve only been in this industry for over 2 years, but I feel I have a bright future ahead of me. I can’t wait to find out where this road leads me. 🙂

Me as a Social Media Manager

How about you? What do you love about social media?

Comfortable Shoes for Work

No matter how much you love your job, if you aren’t comfortable throughout the workday, your mood could be less than cheerful, your attitude less than appealing and your physical well-being in danger. This is especially true if your job requires that you be on your feet all day. To make life a little easier, your workday more pleasant and productive and to take care of your feet and legs, it is imperative that you find comfortable shoes for standing all day. A respected company such as Schuler Shoes has a variety of orthopedic shoes available for men and women.

Comfortable shoes

When your job requires that you stand all day, you need shoes that offer the proper arch support. Not only does this contribute to the comfort level of the shoes, it helps prevent future foot related problems that can develop from wearing improper footwear for a long period of time. Another feature to look for when you’re buying work shoes is the inclusion of a liner to wick away moisture. You might also want to make sure the shoe can accommodate an orthodic insole if necessary.

As it has become increasingly clear how important a good quality shoe is to anyone who has to stand all day, manufacturers have increased the styles available. Good quality foot wear should be a part of your daily footwear collection as well as part of your exercise, walking or leisure time footwear collection.

I Miss Working in an Office… Nahhh

It’s been over a year since I started working online. I love every minute of it, but there are days when I miss working in an office.

Working from home

Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that I don’t have to wake up 3-4 hours before the start of my shift to prepare and travel to the office. I can even wake up a few minutes before my shift and I’ll be okay.

Working from home has benefitted me because I was able to actually save money. I also get to rest more and have more time for my family since I don’t lose almost 6 hours for traveling to and from work.

With that said, though, somehow, I miss getting up early and preparing for work. I miss getting dressed up and made up. I guess I miss having to look professional at work.

Day to Night Office wear

Not that I’m not professional in my online work. But, this time, there’s no pressure. I can even work while in my pajamas!

I’m sure I’m not the only one. Many of my fellow online workers miss that too. Men wearing their polo or suits to work, armed with their briefcases or man-purses. 😉 Women wearing their high-heeled shoes, skirts or slacks on with their face all dolled up.

Men's office clothes

Of course, aside from this, I miss bonding with colleagues. Sure, I have fun with my team through Skype, but actually being around people is exciting and can be very entertaining.

With all that said, however, I wouldn’t trade my current online work to any office job. Well, unless the office is just a 15-minute ride away from me. That might change my mind. 😉

To my fellow online workers out there, tell me: what do you love most about working from home? What do you miss about working in an office?
